Almeria reject Aston Villa’s €17m offer for Senegal midfielder Dion Lopy
Spanish side UD Almeria have reportedly turned down an initial offer from Aston Villa for Senegalese midfielder Dion Lopy, insisting they will not consider selling the player for less than €20 million.
The Premier League club are understood to have identified Lopy as one of their key targets for the summer transfer window and have already made an opening approach to test Almería’s willingness to negotiate.
According to reports, Aston Villa tabled a bid worth €17 million for the 23-year-old midfielder. However, that offer has been rejected outright by the Spanish club, who remain firm on their valuation.
While Almeria are open to discussions with interested clubs, they are reportedly not prepared to accept any proposal below their €20 million asking price. The stance suggests that negotiations could continue if Aston Villa choose to return with an improved offer.
Lopy has attracted attention thanks to his consistent performances in Spain, where he has developed into a key figure in Almeria’s midfield. Known for his defensive discipline, energy, and ability to break up opposition play, he has also contributed offensively this season with three goals and two assists in 26 appearances in La Liga 2.
The Senegal international still has a long-term contract with Almeria, running until 2029, which places the Spanish club in a strong negotiating position as they look to maximise his transfer value.
Aston Villa, meanwhile, are continuing to assess midfield options as they prepare for a busy summer window. The club’s interest in Lopy reflects their strategy of targeting young, high-upside players capable of strengthening the squad depth for both domestic and European competitions.
For now, the deal remains open but unresolved, with Almería standing firm on their valuation and Villa expected to decide whether to return with an improved bid in the coming weeks.
