Aliou Dieng departs Al Ahly after seven-year spell, set for Valencia move
Malian midfielder Aliou Dieng has officially left Al Ahly SC following the expiration of his contract, bringing an end to a seven-year spell marked by domestic dominance and continental success.
The 26-year-old is now expected to continue his career in Spain with Valencia CF, as he prepares for a new chapter in European football.
Dieng’s exit closes one of the most consistent midfield partnerships in African club football in recent years, with the Malian international becoming a key figure in Al Ahly’s sustained run of trophies and record-breaking campaigns across Egypt and the continent.
In an emotional farewell message, Dieng reflected on his journey with the Cairo giants, describing the club as a transformative part of his life and career.
“Al Ahly, the fans, and Egypt have been my home for the past seven years,” he said. “I arrived as a kid and I am now leaving as a man, a father, a husband, and a very fulfilled player on the pitch.”
He added that his time at the club fulfilled his ambitions, including the honour of captaining the side at various stages.
“I lived out my dreams and achieved everything I came here to accomplish. It was an honour to wear the captain’s armband for this team,” Dieng said.
The midfielder also paid tribute to teammates, coaches, and club leadership, highlighting the collective effort behind Al Ahly’s success during his tenure.
“Together as a team and a family – the ‘Ahlyawy fans’ we achieved special things, broke records, and made history,” he noted, while thanking president Mahmoud El Khatib, sporting director Sayed Abdel Hafiz, staff, and supporters for their unwavering backing.
Dieng concluded his message by confirming his departure marks the beginning of a new challenge abroad.
“Now it is time for a new challenge and a new chapter in my career. I leave with great gratitude and beautiful memories. I will miss the club, the fans, and the country forever. They will always stay with me,” he said.
His expected move to Valencia signals a significant step into one of Europe’s top leagues, where he will look to translate his experience and winning mentality from North Africa onto the Spanish stage.
