Ethan Mbappe faces potential five-match Champions League ban

Ethan Mbappe could face a lengthy suspension after receiving a straight red card during Lille’s 3-2 Champions League defeat to Real Betis.

The 19-year-old midfielder was sent off in the 56th minute when a VAR review confirmed that he had struck Betis defender Natan in the face with an elbow.

Mbappe had initially helped Lille make a positive start by assisting Ayase Ueda’s opening goal. However, his dismissal changed the match completely, leaving Lille with ten men and allowing Betis to complete a comeback victory.
