Alexandria’s Al Ittihad open talks to sign Ahli Tripoli striker Weldon Bocoia

Al Ittihad of Alexandria have opened negotiations to sign Congolese forward Weldon Bocoia from Libyan side Ahli Tripoli as they continue an aggressive rebuild ahead of the new season.

The Egyptian Premier League club, coached by Hamza El Gamal, have moved to reinforce their attacking options and are now in contact over a deal for the 24-year-old, FilGoal.com understands.

Bocoia’s most recent spell has been in the Libyan Premier League with Ahli Tripoli, where he played under former Al Ahly and Egypt boss Hossam El Badry.

Since joining the Libyan club in February, the Congo forward has featured in only six matches but managed to score three goals in that time.

Before moving to Ahli Tripoli, Bocoia had spells with Libyan club Al Zahra and AS Otoho in Congo.

Al Ittihad’s busy summer window

Al Ittihad have already announced 10 new signings in the current summer transfer window as they look to overhaul their squad.

The Alexandria club have added Hossam Hassan, Ahmed Hamdy, Ahmed El Arabi, Ahmed El Sayed, Mohamed Mostafa “Mido”, Mohamed Fakhry, Moamen Awad, Khaled Massaad, Abdelrahman Hesham and Ahmed El Shazly.

These arrivals form part of a wider recruitment drive aimed at strengthening the team in multiple positions before the start of the upcoming campaign.

Further deals in the pipeline

FilGoal.com had previously revealed that Al Ittihad had reached agreements to sign Uganda international Kenneth Semakula and Islam Abd El Ilah from ZED FC.

Those deals, together with the pursuit of Bocoia, underline the scale of Al Ittihad’s transfer activity as El Gamal attempts to build a squad capable of competing strongly in the new season.
