Francis Onyeka faces extended spell on sidelines at Elversberg
SV Elversberg could be without Francis Onyeka for up to four weeks after the attacking midfielder suffered a foot ligament injury while on international duty.
The 20-year-old was initially expected to miss two to three weeks, but a report from the Saarbrücker Zeitung suggests his recovery could take longer. As a result, Onyeka is at risk of missing the upcoming Bundesliga fixtures against RB Leipzig and Mainz 05.
The injury has already kept Onyeka out of Elversberg’s recent matches against Union Berlin and FC Augsburg. Coach Vincent Wagner previously expressed frustration that the midfielder returned from Germany’s Under-21 international duty injured, but was relieved that the problem was not expected to keep him out for several months.
Onyeka had established himself as an important member of the starting lineup before the setback, recording an assist in three starts. His absence leaves Elversberg short of another attacking option as they prepare for a demanding run of Bundesliga fixtures.
The club will continue to monitor his recovery before determining when he can resume full training. If the latest reports are accurate, Onyeka could miss several more matches, although his precise return date remains uncertain.
