Alban Lafont hails ‘formidable opportunity’ after sealing three-year Amedspor move

Alban Lafont says joining Amedspor and discovering Turkish football is a “formidable opportunity” as the former Nantes goalkeeper sets his sights on becoming an undisputed leader at his new club.

The Ivory Coast international has signed a three-year contract with the Turkish side after several seasons with Nantes and a loan spell in Greece, and has outlined both his motivations for the move and his ambitions for the next stage of his career.

Lafont, who spent “several beautiful years” and experienced “superb emotions” with Nantes, explained that the desire to embrace a new challenge was central to his decision to leave France.

“Rejoindre Amedspor et decouvrir le football turc est une formidable opportunite pour moi. The 25-year-old (article does not state age, so not included) underlined that his move is driven by both club ambitions and a desire to reinforce his status with the national team, emphasising the experience he has accumulated at the highest level in France and in European competition.

Setting out his objectives at Amedspor, he added: “Mon objectif est d’apporter toute mon experience acquise en Ligue 1 et en Coupe d’Europe pour aider l’equipe a grandir. Lafont stressed that he was quickly convinced by the club’s vision and the trust shown in him during talks, describing Amedspor as an ambitious environment where he believes he can play a central role.

The move marks a significant shift in his career path after his long spell at Nantes, with the goalkeeper portraying his departure from France as a deliberate step away from his “comfort zone” in pursuit of growth in a new league.

By committing to a three-year deal, Lafont has given himself time to establish himself as first choice at Amedspor, pursue the clean sheets he is targeting and maintain his bid for further call-ups with the Ivory Coast.

The Ivorian’s arrival is intended to strengthen Amedspor’s goalkeeping department with a player experienced in Ligue 1 and European competition, while offering Lafont the chance to take on a leadership role in a different footballing culture.

No financial details of the transfer have been disclosed, but both player and club have framed the agreement as a long-term project built around Lafont’s experience and ambitions.
