Al Shamal bring Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane to Qatar after one season at Al Ahly

Al Shamal have confirmed the signing of Tunisia midfielder Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane from Al Ahly, ending his brief spell with the Egyptian club and securing his move to the Qatar Stars League for the 2026-27 season.

The 27-year-old has completed his medical and will join Al Shamal’s training sessions immediately as the club prepares for the start of the new campaign.

Al Shamal said Ben Romdhane’s technical ability and experience would provide a significant boost to their squad. The midfielder has represented both Al Ahly and Tunisian club Esperance de Tunis during his career, while also earning international recognition with the Tunisia national team.

The new Qatar Stars League season is scheduled to begin on 20 August. Al Shamal will open their campaign the following day, when they face Al Arabi in the first round.

Ben Romdhane will be hoping the move gives him a more consistent role after struggling to establish himself as a regular starter during his only season at Al Ahly.

Al Ahly confirmed the player’s departure after one year at the club. He made 33 appearances across all competitions, scoring twice, and helped the club win the Egyptian Super Cup.

His time in Egypt followed a move from Hungarian side Ferencvarosi TC in the summer of 2025. Ben Romdhane had joined Ferencvarosi TC after leaving Esperance de Tunis, where he had built a strong reputation before taking his career to Europe.

Although his stay at Al Ahly lasted only one season, the Tunisia international now begins another phase of his professional career in Qatar. Al Shamal will be hoping he can reproduce the quality and influence that marked his earlier spells and become an important part of their midfield.

The club’s announcement represents a fresh opportunity for Ben Romdhane to regain regular first-team football. With the new season approaching, he will move quickly into preparations for Al Shamal’s opening fixture against Al Arabi on 21 August.
