Al-Ittihad revisit possibility of January move for Al Ahly midfielder Emam Ashour

Al-Ittihad are again considering a move for Al Ahly and Egypt midfielder Emam Ashour during the winter transfer window, according to Saudi newspaper Al Weeam.

The Jeddah club were linked with Ashour during the summer transfer window but failed to complete a deal. The midfielder subsequently extended his contract with Al Ahly until 2030.

Al Weeam reports that Ashour has returned to Al-Ittihad’s list of potential targets as the Saudi club prepares for January recruitment. The club is currently reviewing the player’s situation in full before deciding whether to submit an official offer.

Al-Ittihad have begun preparations for their January business and are looking to strengthen their squad with new signings. The club attempted to bring the Egypt international to Saudi Arabia last summer but were unsuccessful.

Ashour’s recent absence

Ashour has not played in Al Ahly’s past three matches, against Kitara, Modern Sport and Al Mokawloon Al Arab.

Al Ahly explained on Sunday why the midfielder had been left out of the team in recent games. In a statement published on the club’s official website, Al Ahly said his exclusion was for technical reasons only.

The club added that Ashour had continued to train normally and was not suffering from an injury.

However, the player’s personal trainer said Ashour was dealing with an injury that prevented him from playing normally.

Ashour has made four appearances for Al Ahly this season. He has not scored or provided an assist in those matches.
