Al-Hilal rule out move for Liverpool full-back Jeremie Frimpong

Al-Hilal have no intention of signing Liverpool full-back Jeremie Frimpong in the next transfer window, according to a source close to the Saudi Pro League club.

Reports in recent hours had suggested that the Netherlands international had emerged as a target for Al-Hilal, who are assessing potential additions to their squad ahead of their upcoming commitments.

However, a source close to the club told Kooora that Frimpong is not among the options currently under consideration by the Al-Hilal hierarchy.

The source said Al-Hilal manager Simone Inzaghi has identified central defence and midfield as the two positions requiring urgent reinforcement. The Italian is understood to want those areas strengthened before the club considers adding another player at right-back.

Inzaghi is also said to be satisfied with the ability of local full-back Mohamed Mahzari. As a result, the manager would prefer to use the club’s foreign-player allocation on a centre-back or a holding midfielder rather than pursue Frimpong.

The reports linking the Liverpool defender with Al-Hilal therefore do not reflect the club’s current recruitment priorities. The coaching staff are instead focusing on what they regard as more pressing needs within the squad, the source added.

Frimpong’s name had been linked with a move to the Saudi club as part of wider speculation over Al-Hilal’s plans to strengthen their squad, but the club’s present focus remains on the centre-back and midfield positions.
