Al Ahly to retain Morocco winger Achraf Bencharki amid Gulf interest
Egyptian giants Al Ahly have decided to retain experienced Morocco attacker Achraf Bencharki ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.
The 31-year-old Moroccan international has emerged as a transfer target for clubs in the Gulf States following his impressive resurgence during the closing stages of the Egyptian Premier League campaign.
Bencharki rediscovered his form at a crucial moment, producing decisive performances and scoring important goals, particularly in high-profile matches against fierce rivals Zamalek SC.
His strong displays reportedly convinced Al Ahly officials to reconsider earlier discussions surrounding a possible exit after a mixed first half of the season.
According to sources, Al Ahly management no longer believes Bencharki’s earlier struggles were purely technical. Instead, officials reportedly felt Danish coach Jess Thorup failed to maximize the player’s qualities by deploying him in unfamiliar positions or leaving him on the bench during key fixtures.
The club is now convinced that the Moroccan winger still possesses the creativity, attacking intelligence, and match-winning ability needed to make a major impact for the team next season.
Despite being linked with a lucrative offers from Gulf clubs, particularly Qatari league, Al Ahly has yet to receive any official proposal.
The Moroccan international remains under contract with the Cairo-based club until the summer of 2027, and the club’s hierarchy is now determined to build around his experience and attacking quality as they prepare for another demanding campaign on both domestic and continental fronts.
Al Ahly’s coaching staff are also expected to work closely with Bencharki next season in a bid to unlock his best form consistently and help the club maintain its competitive edge across all competitions.
The latest development will come as welcome news for Al Ahly supporters, many of whom have continued to back the former Zamalek star despite his inconsistent performances earlier in the campaign.
