Barcelona plan new Raphinha contract as Brazil winger signals desire to stay

Barcelona are preparing to open talks over a new contract for captain Raphinha, despite the Brazil international already being tied to the club until the summer of 2028.

According to Spanish newspaper Sport, Barcelona are considering extending the 29-year-old’s agreement by a further one or two seasons.

Raphinha has worn the captain’s armband since the start of the current season and is said to be very happy at the Catalan club. The player wants to continue his career with Barcelona, according to the report.

His performances have strengthened his position at the club. Raphinha was named the Spanish league’s Player of the Month for August after making a significant contribution to Barcelona’s strong start.

The winger has helped lead Barcelona to the top of the Spanish league table, scoring five goals and providing one assist in three matches for the Catalan side.

Raphinha scored twice and set up another goal against Elche before finding the net against Athletic Bilbao.

Barcelona signed Raphinha from English club Leeds United in the summer of 2022 for 58 million euros.
