AJEL Rufisque makes bold moves ahead of debut Ligue 1 Season
AJEL Rufisque, newly promoted to Senegal’s Ligue 1, is taking an ambitious approach to its first season in the top flight, determined to build a competitive squad that can challenge the established clubs. Under the guidance of coach Tabane Dieng, the club has been proactive in the transfer market, securing a number of signings aimed at ensuring they are more than just participants in their debut season.
As part of their strategy, AJEL has parted ways with several key players, reinvesting the funds to strengthen their team with experienced and promising talent.
Among the standout new arrivals is Dutch goalkeeper André Krul. At 37, Krul brings with him a wealth of experience, having played for prominent Dutch sides like Ajax and AZ Alkmaar.
His expertise and leadership at the back are expected to provide much-needed stability for the team as they navigate the challenges of Ligue 1.
In attack, AJEL has added young forward Lamine Beye, who was a revelation in Ligue 2 with RS Yoff. Known for his speed and creativity, Beye is poised to add firepower to the team’s offensive line, offering a new dimension in attack.
The club has also bolstered its defense with the signing of Thibaut Aubertin, a former French U17 and U20 international. Aubertin’s versatility and technical ability make him a key addition to the squad, capable of playing multiple roles across the backline.
A focus on versatility has been a hallmark of AJEL’s transfer strategy. Gambian international Kabba Sonko has joined the team, bringing experience from his time in Israel and Gambia.
Sonko is comfortable playing on either side of the defense, adding depth and flexibility to the squad. Another Gambian recruit, goalkeeper Pa Ebou Dampha, has also joined AJEL.
Dampha impressed at the U20 World Cup, and his arrival further strengthens the team’s goalkeeping options.
In midfield, AJEL has secured the services of Issa Ndiaye, a seasoned player with previous stints at Sonacos and Stade de Mbour.
Ndiaye’s experience and skill will be crucial as the team looks to establish control in the center of the pitch and compete against more established Ligue 1 clubs.
Led by president Mamadou Niang Mbaye, AJEL Rufisque is not just aiming to survive their first season in the elite division but to make a significant impact.
The club’s transfer activity reflects a clear ambition to build a squad capable of competing at the highest level of Senegalese football.
With a blend of experience, youth, and versatility, AJEL is approaching the season with renewed energy and optimism.
As the new campaign approaches, AJEL will be looking to translate their ambitious plans into on-field success, hoping to avoid the pitfalls that often befall newly promoted teams.
All eyes will be on Rufisque as the team sets out to prove they belong in the top tier of Senegalese football.
