Ahmed Abdu: Saudi-Eritrean free agent linked with Al-Taawoun move

Saudi-Eritrean centre-forward Ahmed Abdu, currently without a club, is being linked with a return to the Saudi Pro League with Al-Taawoun reportedly exploring a move for the 29-year-old attacker.

Abdu became a free agent on 1 July 2026 after leaving NEOM SC, and his availability without a transfer fee is understood to have attracted interest from top-flight sides looking to add depth in attack ahead of the new campaign. His current estimated value is around 250,000, but any deal with Al-Taawoun would focus primarily on salary and bonuses rather than a transfer fee.

Born in Jeddah and capable of leading the line as a central striker, Abdu has amassed significant experience in Saudi football. Across his time in the Pro League he has made more than a century of appearances, scoring 17 goals and providing five assists, while also enjoying a prolific spell in the First Division with 15 goals in 34 games.

Most recently, Abdu played a key role for NEOM SC, helping the club win the Saudi Arabian second tier in the 2024-25 season. That title success rounded off a period in which he established himself as a reliable option in domestic competition, particularly in cup matches, where he has produced eight goals in 11 Kings Cup outings.

Talks over a switch to Al-Taawoun are yet to progress to an advanced stage, and Abdu remains unattached as clubs weigh up their attacking options for 2026-27.
