Ahly Benghazi end interest in Zamalek defender Ahmed Fattouh

Ahly Benghazi have abandoned plans to sign Zamalek defender Ahmed Fattouh, the Libyan club’s vice-president Murad Al-Aqouri has confirmed.

Fattouh’s contract with Zamalek expires at the end of the current season, meaning he will be free to sign an agreement with another club from January.

“There was an intention to sign Ahmed Fattouh through his agent, but unfortunately some things happened that we cannot talk about,” Al-Aqouri told MBC Masr.

Ahly Benghazi have since completed the signing of an Algerian left-back, and Al-Aqouri said that deal had brought an end to their interest in Fattouh.

“We signed a left-back from Algeria who adds to the team, so we decided not to sign Fattouh,” he said. “There are no negotiations to bring him in January because we have already signed another player.”

Fattouh had been linked with a move to Ahly Benghazi during the current season, but the club will not pursue the transfer after strengthening the position with the Algerian defender.

Al-Aqouri also declined to confirm whether the club had held talks with Al Ahly defender Yasser Ibrahim.

“As for Yasser Ibrahim, I cannot give any information because I do not have confirmed details about this matter,” he said.

Ibrahim’s contract with Al Ahly also runs until the end of the current season, and he will be eligible to sign for another club for free from January.

Both Fattouh and Ibrahim had been associated with a possible move to Ahly Benghazi this season.
