Harry Kane’s new Bayern Munich contract was agreed after eight rounds of negotiations involving his father and brother, according to reports in Germany.
Bayern announced on Thursday that the England international had extended his stay with the club. His previous deal was due to expire in the summer of 2027, but he has now committed to the German club until the summer of 2029.
The new agreement does not include an option to extend the contract until 2030, Bavarian newspaper AZ reported.
Bayern have met Kane’s demands over his salary and image rights, as well as agreeing other terms. The 33-year-old is set to earn more than any player in the club’s history, with his annual salary potentially exceeding 25m euros, according to the report.
The former Tottenham striker now has the highest basic salary of any player in Europe.
Negotiations behind the extension
Bayern chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen held eight rounds of talks with Kane’s father, Patrick, and his brother, Charlie. The negotiations began last summer.
Dreesen had also led the discussions when Kane joined Bayern in the summer of 2023. The club had been completing the paperwork required to formalise the latest extension in recent weeks.
Kane moved to Bayern from Tottenham in 2023 and has scored 156 goals in 161 appearances for the club so far.
The England captain said recently that joining Bayern had transformed his life and represented an important challenge in his career.
“I think moving to Bayern Munich was a big step in my career,” Kane said at a news conference several days ago. “It would have been easy to continue my career somewhere I felt comfortable and where I was guaranteed regular game time, but I wanted to challenge myself and try to improve.”
He added: “Bayern Munich has literally changed my life, both on and off the pitch. Moving to a different country with my family and the welcome we received – everything has honestly been wonderful and I am extremely happy to have made this decision.”
Kane has won the Bundesliga twice with Bayern, along with the German Super Cup twice and the DFB-Pokal once.
