Jose Mourinho has become the most successful manager in La Liga history by win percentage among coaches to have managed at least 100 matches, after guiding Real Madrid to a 3-0 victory over Valencia.
The result took Mourinho to 97 wins from 126 La Liga matches, giving him a win rate of 77%. That moves him ahead of Pep Guardiola, who is second on 76.3%, according to a ranking published by Marca.
Carlo Ancelotti is third with a 71.1% win rate, followed by Xavi Hernandez on 69.6%, Zinedine Zidane on 67.8% and Luis Enrique on 66.4%.
Mourinho said he was proud of the achievement but insisted his focus remained on Real Madrid’s next fixture.
“I do not live on the figures of the past, but in the present, and we have to win the next match,” he told Marca. “I did not know about this record, but of course it is a source of pride because La Liga has had many great managers throughout its history.
“To be among these managers with these figures is something to be proud of, but the next match is the most important. People forget the beautiful numbers in this life.”
The victory over Valencia was Real Madrid’s eighth in succession. It means they enter the international break in their strongest form since the beginning of the season, despite their previous defeat by Real Betis at La Cartuja.
Real Madrid had faced criticism after losing to Atletico de Madrid in September, but have since recovered their balance and put together a sustained run of positive results. The team have also shown greater ability to manage difficult away matches.
Arda Guler was central to the latest win, scoring one goal and creating another. Kylian Mbappe and Federico Valverde also made important contributions, with their attacking effectiveness helping Real Madrid secure a convincing victory.
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick remains the closest challenger to Mourinho in terms of win percentage. Flick has won 69 of his 87 La Liga matches, giving him a rate of 79.3%. However, he has not yet reached the 100-match minimum required to appear in the ranking.
Despite Real Madrid’s winning run, Mourinho expressed concern about the physical condition of his players before the international break. His squad have played a large number of matches within a short period.
He also said he respected the work of national-team managers, highlighting the need to consider his players’ fitness during the break. Real Madrid are due to return to action and continue their season after two weeks.
