Bayern Munich chief Uli Hoeness gives Vincent Kompany return update

Bayern Munich chief executive Uli Hoeness says Vincent Kompany could return to the club’s training ground in three or four weeks after being taken to hospital with an illness.

Kompany has been absent from training while recovering from the health issue, with Hoeness suggesting the Bayern manager could be back in the dugout after the next international break.

“Kompany may return to lead training after three or four weeks, which means he will be back on the bench after the international break,” Hoeness told Sky.

“He was working 12 hours a day, six days a week, and that is far too much.”

Hoeness also discussed the situation involving Bayern forward Jamal Musiala, saying the player is dealing with an illness that is difficult to treat.

“We are facing a problem concerning Musiala,” he said. “He has an illness that is not easy to treat, although it can be controlled to some extent with medication.

“But whether he will ever be able to regain the level he showed previously remains uncertain.”

Musiala continues to receive his salary from Bayern Munich, Hoeness added, while outlining the club’s position should it question whether the player’s current capabilities match the terms of his contract.

“Musiala is, of course, still receiving his salary,” Hoeness said. “But imagine if Bayern Munich decided to question his contract now and told him: ‘What you can offer at present no longer corresponds with what was agreed in the contract.’”
