Bernardo Silva believes Real Madrid’s 3-0 win at Valencia has put them in a stronger position in the race for the Spanish league title.
Real Madrid secured all three points at Mestalla in the 12th round of La Liga, moving to 30 points and second place in the table. They are level on goal difference with leaders Barcelona, who face Atletico de Madrid later today.
Speaking to the club’s television channel after the match, Bernardo criticised Valencia’s approach and claimed the referee had contributed to it.
“Valencia were extremely aggressive because the referee allowed them to be,” he said.
The result extended Real Madrid’s impressive run, although Bernardo said the squad was focused on maintaining its standards rather than dwelling on what had already been achieved.
“We cannot wait to return to the Bernabeu and continue our winning run there. I know the fans are waiting for us,” he added.
“The win against Valencia puts us in a better position to compete for the league title. We are very happy with our performances in the last eight matches, but that is now in the past.
“We have to continue in the same way. The atmosphere in the dressing room and throughout the club is excellent, and we are taking each match individually.”
Real Madrid’s three goals were scored through a combination of individual quality and collective play, according to Bernardo.
“Valverde strikes the ball really well. The other goals came from good teamwork, while the third was the result of an exceptional individual piece of skill from Arda,” he said.
“When the team is well organised and you have the players we have, things will always go well.”
