‘You haven’t seen the best version of me’ – Bradley Barcola responds to Liverpool struggles
Bradley Barcola has conceded that Liverpool supporters are yet to witness his full potential following his high-profile move from Paris Saint-Germain, with the French forward acknowledging that his performances have fallen short of expectations.
The 24-year-old has endured a difficult introduction to life at Anfield since completing a move from the European champions in a deal reportedly worth up to £123 million, including performance-related add-ons.
Despite arriving with considerable expectations, Barcola has struggled to make the anticipated impact, registering just three goals in 13 appearances across all competitions.
More concerning for Liverpool is his inability to find the net in the Premier League, leaving questions over how quickly he can adapt to the demands of English football and justify the significant investment made in his services.
Barcola, however, believes his performances are gradually improving and has insisted that supporters have not yet seen what he is capable of delivering.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, the forward admitted that he is still some distance from reaching his best level but remains confident that greater understanding with his teammates will help unlock his potential.
“No, I don’t think I’m at my best yet,” he said.
“You still haven’t seen the best version of me. On top of that, we’re working with my team-mates so that they can make the most of my strengths.”
Barcola identifies key to unlocking his Liverpool potential
The French international believes building stronger relationships with his teammates will be crucial to improving his performances as he continues adjusting to his new surroundings.
Having arrived from Paris Saint-Germain with a reputation as one of Europe’s exciting attacking talents, Barcola is still adapting to Liverpool’s playing style and the expectations that accompany his transfer fee.
The forward suggested that understanding between him and the other attacking players is developing, giving him confidence that his contributions will improve as the season progresses.
“So yes, I think once we really develop that understanding, things will get much better,” Barcola continued.
“And I think things are improving all the time. People are beginning to understand my style of play much better. I think it’s going much better.”
His comments suggest that the forward believes his struggles are partly connected to the time required to establish chemistry with his new teammates rather than an inability to deliver at the highest level.
Pressure mounting after expensive PSG departure
Liverpool’s reported £123 million investment in Barcola has inevitably placed him under intense scrutiny, particularly given the expectations surrounding his arrival from Paris Saint-Germain.
The 24-year-old was expected to add pace, creativity and a consistent goalscoring threat to Liverpool’s attacking options, but his early statistics have yet to reflect that ambition.
Three goals in 13 appearances across competitions represent a modest return for a player recruited for such a substantial fee, while his failure to score in the Premier League further highlights the challenges he has encountered.
Nevertheless, Barcola has refused to suggest that he is satisfied with his current contribution, acknowledging that there is considerably more to come from him.
Liverpool will hope that the forward’s improving understanding with his teammates translates into greater productivity in the final third as the campaign develops.
