Zothwane explains Ohizu half-time substitution in Carling Knockout defeat

Sekhukhune United head coach Papi Zothwane said he replaced Chibuike Ohizu at half-time against Orlando Pirates because his side needed greater movement and width.

Babina Noko were eliminated from the Carling Knockout after losing 1-0 to the Buccaneers on Saturday afternoon at Orlando Amstel Stadium.

“We wanted more mobility,” Zothwane told SuperSport after the match.

“We wanted wingers that will go wide because we were overloaded and we had to be brave and decide which player we are taking off. We felt Muzeu, in terms of mobility and the runs he was giving us, offered a lot. I think Ohizu did well, but we wanted a different approach in the second half.”

The decision to remove Ohizu came after Sekhukhune found themselves under pressure against an Orlando Pirates team that ultimately secured victory through Padime.

Zothwane also praised Themba Mantsimbi for his performance at full-back, despite the player’s usual position being centre-back.

“Ja, they didn’t penetrate on the right-hand side as much as Moremi will always go behind him, but he didn’t do that much. Maybe that’s one thing he could improve, maybe the final-third entries,” Zothwane said.

“But we know he is a centre-back, so we can’t expect a lot. We wanted him to support from behind, but in terms of his performance, we’re happy with that.”
