Atletico Madrid rally around Ademola Lookman to restore his confidence

Atletico Madrid’s coaching staff and players are reportedly working together to help Ademola Lookman overcome his recent struggles and rediscover his best form at the Spanish club.

The Nigerian international has endured a difficult spell in recent weeks, losing his place in Diego Simeone’s starting lineup despite arriving for pre-season in excellent physical condition.

Lookman initially impressed when deployed as a makeshift centre-forward but has struggled to maintain that influence since returning to his preferred position on the left wing.

His difficulties were evident during Atletico’s UEFA Champions League meeting with Bayern Munich, where he came off the bench in the 59th minute of a 2-0 defeat. The Nigerian also faced criticism following a defensive lapse that contributed to Bayern’s second goal.

Despite his reduced playing time, Simeone has publicly reaffirmed his confidence in the forward, urging him not to become frustrated by his current situation.

Lookman joined Atletico from Atalanta in February 2026 and made an immediate impression, scoring nine goals in 24 appearances during his initial spell.

The Madrid side remain hopeful he can rediscover that attacking form.
