Al Masry beat Misr Lel Makkasa to reach Egypt Cup last 16

Al Masry secured their place in the last 16 of the Egypt Cup with a 2-1 victory over Misr Lel Makkasa in the competition’s round of 32.

Ahmed Sherif gave Al Masry the lead in the 17th minute before Seif Mahdy equalised for Misr Lel Makkasa shortly after half-time. Moroccan forward Abdullah El Zayani restored Al Masry’s advantage in the 75th minute.

The result also gave Tunisian manager Nabil El Kouki his first win since beginning his second spell in charge of Al Masry.

Al Masry will face either Tala’ea El Gaish or Asyut Petroleum in the last 16. The two sides meet on Sunday evening in their round-of-32 tie.

Al Masry started brightly and took the lead when Sherif finished in the 17th minute.

El Zayani then missed a clear opportunity to double the advantage five minutes before half-time.

The forward went close again three minutes after the restart, accelerating away from the Misr Lel Makkasa defence before striking a powerful shot narrowly wide of the goal.

Misr Lel Makkasa levelled in the 50th minute through Mahdy, who took advantage of a one-on-one chance and placed the ball into the net.

Al Masry regained control in the 75th minute. El Zayani reacted quickest to the ball and guided it home to put his side back in front, a lead they held until the final whistle.
