Mohamed Salah says he and Fabinho were below their best as Trabzonspor lost 1-0 to Freiburg in the Conference League.
The result was Trabzonspor’s first defeat since Thomas Reis took charge, ending a run of seven successive victories in all competitions.
Speaking to the media, in comments reported by Asharq Al-Awsat, Trabzonspor captain Salah acknowledged that both players had struggled to make their usual impact.
“Fabinho and I know that we were not at our best against Freiburg,” Salah said.
“I had chances that I should have taken, and Fabinho also knows that he could have produced a better performance.”
Salah said the players had to respond collectively rather than withdraw after a disappointing result.
“But this is football. You cannot hide when things go wrong. We must stand together, especially on evenings like this,” he added.
The defeat left Trabzonspor 12th in the Conference League standings, with six points from three matches.
In the Turkish league, Trabzonspor are third on 22 points, three points behind the leaders.
Their next fixture is against Alanyaspor in the 11th round of the Turkish league on Sunday, before the international break.
