Trabzonspor’s perfect run under Thomas Reis came to an end as Freiburg secured a 1-0 victory in Turkey in the third week of the Conference League.
The defeat was the first suffered by Trabzonspor since the German took charge and also marked the first time the club had failed to score during his eight-match spell as manager.
According to Turkish website 61saat, Reis had guided the team to seven consecutive victories after being appointed. That sequence had raised hopes among supporters at Papara Park that Trabzonspor could enjoy an exceptional season.
Their domestic form had included a 4-0 home victory over Galatasaray, a 3-0 away win against Samsunspor and a 2-0 triumph over Besiktas. Trabzonspor had also beaten Caykur Rizespor 4-3 away from home before recording a 2-0 victory against Gaziantep.
The Turkish side had also made a strong start in the Conference League. Before facing Freiburg, they had won both of their opening matches, defeating Finnish club KuPS Kuopio 4-2 in Finland and Scottish side Hearts 2-0 in Scotland.
Despite the loss, Trabzonspor remain on six points in the competition.
The match against Freiburg brought a halt to an attacking run that had seen Reis’ side score in every previous game since his arrival. Trabzonspor had scored 15 goals in five Turkish league matches and six in two Conference League fixtures before being shut out by the German defence.
The result therefore delivered two unwanted firsts for Reis: his first defeat as Trabzonspor manager and the first match in which his team failed to find the net.
The fixture listings included with the report show Trabzonspor due to face Alanyaspor in the Turkish top flight on 08 November 2026. Freiburg are listed to play Union Berlin in the German league on the same date.
