The Spanish Football Federation’s disciplinary committee has postponed its decision on Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono following the incident that led to the death of Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel.
The committee announced the complete list of punishments from the 12th round of Segunda Division on Thursday, but left Owono’s case unresolved. The goalkeeper was shown a straight red card during the match, which was later suspended because of the seriousness of the incident.
The committee said a decision on his punishment would be issued soon. Under the disciplinary regulations, offences of this nature would normally result in a suspension of between 4 and 12 matches.
However, the circumstances surrounding the match also led the sole judge of the competition committee to make an exceptional ruling on whether the fixture should be completed.
According to Spanish publication okdiario, the judge has accepted the score recorded by the referee immediately before the tragedy occurred. The match between Tenerife and Andorra will therefore stand as a 2-2 draw and will not be resumed.
The ruling said: “The circumstances of this case are extremely exceptional, as the match was suspended because of a serious incident involving one of the players during play, which unfortunately later led to his death.
“In view of this situation, the organising body considers that the decision on whether the match should be resumed or brought to an end must be made with compassion, sensitivity and respect for the memory of the deceased player, his family and his team-mates.”
It added: “From this perspective, it is considered that the most respectful course of action, given the exceptional and tragic circumstances, is to bring the match to an end.”
The disciplinary committee has also delayed setting the length of Owono’s suspension because Tenerife and Andorra remain within the legal period allowed to submit their arguments and evidence.
“As the match ended yesterday by decision of the competition judge, the matters arising from the referee’s report will be resolved shortly,” the committee said.
Neither Tenerife nor Andorra is currently expected to challenge the result or any subsequent disciplinary decision, given the mourning that has followed the incident.
A criminal investigation opened by police is continuing. It has not yet been established whether provisions of the criminal code will be applied.
The football community has maintained silence and shown respect for Jesus de Miguel’s memory while the investigation and disciplinary process continue. No final conclusion has yet been reached on the sporting punishment that may be imposed on Jesus Owono.
The accompanying fixture listings show Granada and Tenerife scheduled in Segunda Division on 07 November 2026, with Andorra and Mallorca listed in the same competition on 08 November 2026.
