Football is in mourning after the tragic incident that led to the death of Jesus de Miguel, with goalkeeper Jesus Owono publicly sharing his grief in an emotional letter.
The international goalkeeper said he was struggling to process what had happened and described the period as the most difficult of his life.
“These are the most difficult days of my life. It is difficult for me to find the words and I find it very hard to take in everything that has happened,” Owono wrote.
Owono also expressed his deepest sympathies to Jesus de Miguel’s family and those closest to him, saying he was experiencing “enormous pain” because of the loss.
“I feel enormous pain over the loss of Jesus. I am thinking of him, his family and everyone who loved him,” he said.
“I know there will be many issues to deal with. I will face whatever comes with all the respect I must show.”
Owono ended his message with a brief farewell to Jesus de Miguel.
“Rest in peace, Jesus.”
