Lille and Bayer Leverkusen monitor South African forward Relebohile Mofokeng
South African forward Relebohile Mofokeng has attracted interest from French side Lille and German club Bayer Leverkusen following his impressive start to life at Belgian outfit Union Saint-Gilloise.
The 22-year-old has quickly established himself at his new club after completing a move from Orlando Pirates during the summer transfer window, with his performances now attracting attention from several European sides.
According to Sky Sport, Lille are closely monitoring Mofokeng’s development and have placed him on their shortlist ahead of future transfer windows.
The French club are understood to be keeping a close eye on the forward as they assess potential additions to their squad. However, they face competition from Bayer Leverkusen, who have also made enquiries about his situation.
The German club’s scouting department has reportedly been impressed by the South African’s displays since his arrival in Belgium.
Mofokeng has adapted quickly to his new surroundings, with his versatility proving useful in Union Saint-Gilloise’s attacking set-up.
Although primarily known as a forward, he has been deployed in a second-striker role, allowing him to operate closer to the main striker while also contributing to the team’s attacking movements.
His performances have produced encouraging numbers, with the South African international recording five goals and four assists in 15 appearances across all competitions.
Those figures represent an impressive start to his European career and have helped raise his profile among clubs looking for attacking reinforcements.
Mofokeng’s current market value is estimated at €6m, although any potential transfer would depend on Union Saint-Gilloise’s willingness to negotiate.
The Belgian club secured his services from Orlando Pirates during the summer and have tied him to a contract running until June 2030, with an option to extend the agreement by another year.
That long-term contract places Union Saint-Gilloise in a strong position regarding his future, particularly with interest from clubs in two of Europe’s major leagues beginning to emerge.
For Lille, the opportunity to recruit a promising South African international could become an attractive option as they continue assessing their transfer targets.
Leverkusen, meanwhile, are also following his progress after being impressed by what he has produced since moving to Belgium.
With the winter transfer window approaching, Mofokeng is likely to remain a player attracting attention from across Europe.
However, it remains to be seen whether either Lille or Bayer Leverkusen will turn their reported interest into a formal approach for the forward in the coming months.
