Soufiane El-Faouzi has taken another important step towards his return to action after rejoining FC Schalke 04’s team training on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old midfielder participated in the full team session while wearing a specially adapted protective mask to safeguard his nose following a fracture sustained last month.

Schalke confirmed his return to team training on Wednesday, November 4, providing an encouraging update ahead of Sunday’s Bundesliga encounter against TSG Hoffenheim.

El-Faouzi suffered the injury during Schalke’s 1-1 draw against FC Köln on October 24 following a collision with teammate Robin Gosens. He sustained a fractured nose and a forehead laceration that required stitches.

The midfielder had previously revealed that the protective mask did not significantly affect his vision, although his willingness to engage in physical challenges remains an important consideration in his recovery.

His return is a welcome boost for head coach Miron Muslić, particularly after missing Schalke’s matches against Dynamo Dresden and RB Leipzig.

El-Faouzi had established himself as an important member of the midfield before his injury, featuring prominently in Schalke’s Bundesliga campaign.

His availability for Sunday’s trip to Hoffenheim will depend on how he responds to the increased intensity of team training and whether he feels comfortable competing in physical duels.

Schalke will be hoping the midfielder can complete his recovery in time to strengthen their options for the weekend encounter.
