Al Ittihad consider January move for RB Leipzig defender Abdoul Kone

Al Ittihad are considering a move for RB Leipzig defender Abdoul Kone, who could leave the German club only a few months after completing his transfer from Stade de Reims.

The 21-year-old French centre-back, who is of Ivorian descent, has struggled to establish himself in the Bundesliga. According to Foot Mercato, Al Ittihad are monitoring his situation and could attempt to sign him during the next winter transfer window.

Kone joined RB Leipzig in January for a fee of about 21 million euros. He was immediately sent back to Stade de Reims on loan for the remainder of the season, making 28 appearances in Ligue 2 for the club where he was developed.

His opportunities have been far more limited since moving permanently to Leipzig. Kone has featured in only one competitive match for the German side this season, with his involvement limited to a three-minute appearance against Elversberg on 24 October.

RB Leipzig won that match 4-0, but Kone’s lack of playing time has raised the possibility of a move as early as January. A switch to Saudi Arabia could provide the defender with an opportunity to revive his career and secure more regular first-team football.

The decision will ultimately depend on RB Leipzig, who made a significant investment to bring Kone to the club. He remains under contract until 30 June 2031, while his current market value is estimated at 15 million euros.

Al Ittihad’s interest comes as Kone continues to wait for a more prominent role in Germany. Despite the long-term commitment shown by Leipzig when they signed him, he has yet to make a meaningful impact in the first team.

RB Leipzig are due to face Manchester City in their next fixture in the fourth matchday of the league phase of the Champions League.
