USM Alger coach Lamine N’Diaye targets Super Cup surprise against Mamelodi Sundowns
USM Alger coach Lamine N’Diaye says his side will approach Sunday’s CAF Super Cup final against Mamelodi Sundowns with confidence after securing a morale-boosting victory in the Algerian Ligue 1.
The Algerian outfit recorded a 2-0 away win over CS Constantine on matchday seven, moving several places up the league standings.
N’Diaye believes the result has come at the right time as his team prepares for the continental showdown against Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria.
The final will bring together the winners of the 2025/26 CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup, with both sides bidding to add another continental trophy to their collections.
Despite acknowledging the quality of their opponents, N’Diaye remains hopeful that USM Alger can produce an upset.
“We deserved our victory. It was a very valuable win because it allowed us to climb several places, but above all, it came at a very good time, just a few days before the African Super Cup final,” he said, according to PlaneteSport.
“We will be facing the best club in Africa. You only have to look at their ranking to understand that our task will not be easy.
“However, football is not an exact science. We will therefore try to cause a surprise and pull off a major result.”
USM Alger will be hoping to translate their recent domestic form into a strong performance against the South African giants as they chase the CAF Super Cup title.
