Mali star Mamadou Sangaré reveals surprising reason for taking Uber to training
Brentford and Mali international midfielder Mamadou Sangaré has revealed why he prefers using Uber to travel to training rather than purchasing a personal car, despite becoming one of the club’s most expensive signings.
The 23-year-old joined the Premier League side from French outfit Lens during the summer transfer window in a deal reportedly worth £41 million, making him Brentford’s record signing.
However, despite the significant financial commitment made by the London club to secure his services, Sangaré insists that his growing success in football has not changed his lifestyle or personal values.
Speaking in an interview with Canal+, the Malian midfielder explained that he regularly takes an Uber to Brentford’s training ground because of its proximity to his residence, adding that purchasing a car would not make financial sense.
“I always take an Uber to the training ground because it’s only five minutes away. I don’t buy a car because I believe it’s more economical. I’m a simple person. Becoming a professional footballer won’t change my habits. I know where I come from, and I won’t let success get to my head,” he said.
Sangaré’s comments highlight his determination to maintain a modest lifestyle despite making significant strides in his professional career and securing a lucrative move to the Premier League.
The midfielder earned recognition during his spell in French football, where he played an important role in Lens’ impressive campaign, helping the club secure qualification for the UEFA Champions League and win the Coupe de France for the first time in their history.
His performances attracted interest from several clubs before Brentford eventually secured his signature in a major transfer deal.
Now embarking on a new chapter in English football, the Mali international will be hoping to justify Brentford’s investment through his performances on the pitch.
Beyond his footballing ambitions, however, Sangaré’s latest revelation offers an insight into his personality, with the midfielder insisting that financial success will not make him abandon the simple habits that have shaped his life.
