Kai Havertz made Premier League history by becoming the competition’s leading German goalscorer after scoring for Arsenal against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.
The Arsenal striker struck in the 16th minute during the two sides’ meeting in the ninth round of the Premier League. According to Opta, the goal took Havertz’s total in the competition to 46.
That moved him clear of fellow Germany international Ilkay Gundogan, the Manchester City great who had previously held the record with 45 Premier League goals.
Havertz, who joined Arsenal after previously playing for Chelsea, is now the most prolific German player in the history of England’s top flight. His achievement puts him ahead of a number of prominent German players who have played in the Premier League.
The record came in a high-profile fixture at Anfield, giving Havertz another significant milestone in his Premier League career and reinforcing his place among the German forwards to have made a notable impact in the competition.
