Manchester United are closely monitoring Fulham defender Calvin Bassey after being impressed by the Nigeria international’s performances this season, according to TEAMtalk.
The 26-year-old has become an increasingly important part of Fulham’s defence, while his ability to play both centrally and at left-back has made him an attractive option for a number of clubs across Europe.
Bassey’s market value is estimated at 28 million euros by Transfermarkt, but his contractual situation is likely to be a key factor in determining his future.
His current Fulham deal expires at the end of the season, although the London club have the option to extend it by a further year. Fulham are also keen to offer Bassey a new contract in an effort to secure his long-term future.
That has not stopped rival clubs from following developments. Manchester United are considering changes to their defence, with Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire all due to be out of contract in the summer of 2027.
The club are therefore assessing potential options ahead of possible changes in that area of the squad, and Bassey is viewed as a player who could provide both defensive cover and tactical flexibility.
United are not alone in their interest. Newcastle United and Everton are also tracking the defender as part of their recruitment plans.
There is interest from outside England too, with Inter Milan, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig among the European clubs understood to be monitoring Bassey’s situation.
Fulham’s priority will be to persuade the defender to remain at Craven Cottage, either by taking up their extension option or by agreeing a new contract. However, the number of clubs watching him and the uncertainty surrounding his deal could make him one of the players attracting significant attention during the next summer transfer window.
Manchester United are due to play Chelsea in their ninth match of the English league season.
