Al-Ahli’s on-loan forward Ricardo Matias scored twice, won a penalty and played a key role in the dismissal of goalkeeper Abdulrahman Al-Sanbi as Al-Shabab claimed a commanding victory in the Roshn Saudi League’s young-club classic.
Al-Ahli were visiting Al-Shabab at SHG Arena in Riyadh on Friday for the 12th round of the competition when Matias opened the scoring after just 66 seconds.
The Brazilian striker capitalised on a mistake by Al-Ahli defender Ryan Hamid, stole possession and finished past goalkeeper Al-Sanbi. Matias did not celebrate, however, because the goal came against his parent club. The 20-year-old joined Al-Shabab on loan from Al-Ahli during the summer transfer window.
The strike was Matias’ third for Al-Shabab this season, despite being only his fifth appearance. He has also provided one assist.
Matias joined Al-Ahli during the previous winter transfer window from Brazilian club Internacional, but made only six appearances for the first team and failed to score.
According to Opta, his early finish was the fifth-fastest goal scored by Al-Shabab in the history of their Saudi professional league appearances, dating back to the 2011-12 season. It was also the club’s quickest goal in the Roshn Saudi League since Odion Ighalo scored against Al-Hilal after 62 seconds in September 2021.
Matias’ influence continued in the 22nd minute when he raced clear from the halfway line. Al-Sanbi came off his line and attempted to stop the shot with his hand while outside the penalty area, prompting the referee to show the Al-Ahli goalkeeper a red card.
The Dutch coach was forced to replace Hamid, who had made the error for the opening goal, with young goalkeeper Abdullah Abduh.
Abduh conceded with his first involvement as Belgian winger Yannick Carrasco scored from the free-kick awarded for Al-Sanbi’s offence.
Matias then won a penalty in the 37th minute, allowing Colombian striker Roger Martinez to convert and put Al-Shabab 3-0 ahead.
The Brazilian completed his brace three minutes after half-time, heading a cross into the net in the 48th minute to make it four for the hosts.
As he had after his first goal, Matias again chose not to celebrate in front of Al-Ahli, the club to whom he remains contracted until the end of the current season.
The listed upcoming fixtures include Al-Ahli against Abha in the Roshn Saudi League on 5 November 2026, while Al-Shabab are also scheduled for action. Al Sadd are listed in the AFC Champions League Elite on 2 November 2026.
