Real Madrid captain Federico Valverde has raised doubts over his availability for Sunday’s La Liga meeting with Racing Santander after admitting he has not fully recovered from the injury suffered in the clasico against Barcelona.
The Uruguay international remains absent from Real Madrid’s group training at the Valdebebas training complex, where he is continuing an individual rehabilitation programme. His involvement against Racing Santander is therefore expected to remain undecided until close to kick-off.
Cameras from Spanish television programme El Chiringuito captured Valverde speaking to supporters as he stopped to sign autographs before leaving the training ground. Asked about his fitness, he replied: “I’m not 100% ready yet… I’m trying.”
The midfielder was also questioned about his medical diagnosis and what Real Madrid’s doctors had told him. He declined to provide details, saying: “I don’t know if I can disclose that; they should say that themselves.”
His response indicated that the injury is still being assessed by the club’s medical staff, leaving uncertainty over whether he will be cleared to play on 01 November 2026.
Valverde’s brief exchange also included a question about his relationship with Jose Mourinho. Smiling, he replied: “Very good, unbelievable, I enjoy it.”
The comment suggested the 01 November 2026 fixture remains a key concern for Real Madrid, who rely heavily on Valverde, particularly when he plays at right-back in major matches. His injury has also come during a busy period of important fixtures, increasing the significance of the decision over whether he can return against Racing Santander.
