RS Berkane secured their first victory of the Moroccan league season after defeating Raja Casablanca 2-0 at home on Sunday evening in the sixth round of the competition.

The Orange Boys ended a frustrating run of four consecutive draws with an impressive performance in front of their supporters, scoring once in each half to claim all three points.

Youssef Mahri opened the scoring in the 29th minute, giving Berkane an important advantage before Yassine Behiri sealed the victory with an 85th-minute penalty.

Raja Casablanca struggled to break down the home side’s defence throughout the encounter and were unable to find a response during the 90 minutes.

The result represents an important breakthrough for Berkane, who had struggled to turn their performances into victories during the opening weeks of the campaign.

Berkane finally secure first league victory

Berkane began their Moroccan league campaign with four successive draws against Moghreb Tetouan, Ittihad Touarga, Nahdat Zemamra and Maghreb Fez.

However, Sunday’s triumph over Raja brought that sequence to an end and gave the club their first three points of the season.

The victory takes Berkane to seven points from five matches, leaving them 12th in the standings.

For Raja Casablanca, the defeat represents another setback, with the club remaining on six points from five matches in 13th position.

Royal Army held by Meknes

Elsewhere in the same round, Royal Army were held to a goalless draw by Meknes Club.

The result took Royal Army’s points tally to eight, leaving them ninth in the standings.

Meknes, meanwhile, moved to 11 points and remained second in the league table.
