Al Ahly goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir vows to compensate fans with Egyptian league title
Al Ahly goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir has vowed that the Egyptian giants will work hard to make amends to their supporters by winning the Egyptian Premier League title after securing a narrow 1-0 victory over Modern Sport.
The Red Devils claimed all three points at Cairo Stadium, thanks to Omar El-Saai’s first-half header in the 17th minute, which proved enough to settle the eighth-round encounter.
Shobeir was one of the standout performers on the night, producing a crucial penalty save in the 85th minute to deny Modern Sport an equaliser and preserve his team’s advantage.
The 25-year-old’s intervention proved particularly important as Al Ahly looked to protect their slender lead and secure a vital victory in their pursuit of the league title.
Speaking after the match in an interview with ON Sport, the goalkeeper expressed his satisfaction with the result while acknowledging the responsibility the players have to repay the supporters for last season’s disappointments.
“Thank God for the success and victory in the match. We will try to compensate the fans for the mistakes of last season by winning matches and achieving the league title,” he said.
The shot-stopper admitted that the team’s performances in the league still require improvement but stressed that there is enough time for the squad to raise its level as the campaign progresses.
“We acknowledge that the team’s performance needs further improvement, especially in the league championship, and the season is still long,” he added.
Shobeir also assessed Al Ahly’s prospects in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage, describing their opponents as strong while insisting that the club remain determined to compete for every available trophy.
“Al Ahly’s group in the Confederation Cup group stage is strong and respectable, and we will fight to achieve all possible championships this season,” he concluded.
The victory lifted Al Ahly to 20 points, leaving them second in the Egyptian Premier League standings, just one point behind leaders Pyramids FC, who have accumulated 21 points.
Modern Sport, meanwhile, remain sixth with 13 points after suffering the defeat.
Al Ahly will now look to build on the result as they continue their quest to reclaim the Egyptian Premier League crown and challenge for honours on the continental stage.
