Senegalese forward Paul Mendy has committed his future to Cagliari after signing a contract extension that will keep him at the Italian club until June 30, 2032.

The Serie A side confirmed the renewal in an official statement, securing the services of the 2007-born striker, who has progressed rapidly through the club’s youth ranks to become an important member of coach Fabio Pisacane’s attacking options.

Mendy’s new deal comes after an impressive rise in Sardinia, where his goalscoring performances have earned him opportunities with the first team.

Mendy’s rapid rise through Cagliari’s ranks

Born on January 13, 2007, in Rufisque, Senegal, Mendy joined Cagliari from ASC Bambey in February 2025.

He initially featured for the club’s Under-18 side, scoring three goals in eight appearances before moving up to the Under-20 team the following season.

The young forward continued to impress, scoring his first brace on September 21 in the match against Sassuolo. Between December and January, he found the net in four consecutive games against Fiorentina, Frosinone, Parma and Roma before adding another brace against Genoa on February 1.

His performances earned him promotion to the senior team, where he made his debut against Napoli on March 20, 2026, at the age of 19.

Two goals on his first start

Mendy made an immediate impact after being handed his first start on April 27, scoring twice in eight minutes to help Cagliari secure a 3-2 victory over Atalanta at the Unipol Domus.

He continued to contribute to the Under-20 side during the closing stages of the campaign, adding four goals and two assists.

The Senegalese striker also played a key role in the team’s play-off final in Naples, recording one goal and two assists in a 3-0 victory that secured promotion to Primavera 1.

Mendy establishes himself in Pisacane’s attack

Mendy has continued his development this season, becoming one of the key figures in Pisacane’s attacking setup.

He has featured in all nine of Cagliari’s league matches, scoring in the away victory against Atalanta and providing an assist for Daniel Maldini in the 1-1 draw against Juventus.

The young forward has also made his mark in the Italian Cup, scoring against Hellas Verona.

His contract extension until 2032 represents a long-term commitment from Cagliari to a player whose progress has taken him from the youth teams to the senior squad in a relatively short period.
