Former Pyramids FC coach Krunoslav Jurčić linked with Dinamo Zagreb return
Former Pyramids FC head coach Krunoslav Jurčić has emerged as a potential candidate to take charge of Croatian giants Dinamo Zagreb following renewed uncertainty surrounding the future of current coach Mario Kovačević.
Jurčić, who left Pyramids FC in July 2026 after his contract expired, is currently without a club after overseeing a successful spell in Egyptian football, during which he reportedly won five titles, including the CAF Champions League, Egyptian Cup, CAF Super Cup and FIFA Intercontinental Cup.
According to reports, Dinamo Zagreb’s recent 4-2 defeat to Dutch side NEC Nijmegen has intensified scrutiny of Kovačević’s position, with Jurčić’s name increasingly being mentioned as a possible replacement.
Although Dinamo Zagreb president Zvonimir Boban is reportedly reluctant to make a hasty decision regarding the coaching position, the former Pyramids boss has emerged as an option should the club decide to make a change.
Jurčić’s previous experience with Dinamo Zagreb could work in his favour, having managed the Croatian club on three separate occasions, with his most recent spell ending in 2013.
His familiarity with the club’s culture, expectations and demanding supporters could make him an attractive candidate if the Croatian champions decide to appoint a new head coach.
The 56-year-old’s achievements with Pyramids have also strengthened his credentials, particularly after guiding the Egyptian side to continental success and adding significant silverware to his coaching résumé.
Jurčić also shares a longstanding connection with Boban, with the two having represented Croatia during their playing careers and been part of the national team’s historic run to a third-place finish at the 1998 FIFA World Cup.
That relationship could add another dimension to the speculation surrounding a possible return to Dinamo Zagreb, although no official appointment has been announced.
The former Pyramids coach has also reportedly attracted considerable support in a reader poll conducted on potential replacements for Kovačević, suggesting that his name has gained traction among sections of the club’s following.
However, Boban is understood to remain supportive of the current coach and keen to avoid another rushed managerial decision.
As a result, any decision on Dinamo Zagreb’s coaching position could be delayed until at least the winter break, leaving Jurčić’s potential return to European football dependent on how the situation develops in the coming weeks.
