Former Cameroon star Pierre Webo appointed Dunkerque head coach
Former Cameroon international striker Pierre Achille Webo has been appointed head coach of French Ligue 2 side Dunkerque, marking a major milestone in his coaching career.
Webo, who was the assistance manager of the club replaces Albert Sánchez following his exit from the team
Dunkerque announced that the former Indomitable Lions forward would lead the team “until further notice” as the club begins a new chapter under his leadership.
The appointment represents Webo’s first opportunity to manage a professional senior team as head coach, having spent the period since his playing career working as part of the technical staff.
The former Cameroon international will be eager to make an immediate impression as he prepares to take on the responsibility of guiding Dunkerque through the remainder of the campaign.
His first assignment will come on Friday, October 30, when Dunkerque host Rodez in their Ligue 2 matchday 11 encounter.
The fixture will provide Webo with an early opportunity to assess his squad, implement his ideas and begin his tenure with a positive result.
Webo enjoyed a distinguished playing career, representing Cameroon at international level and featuring for several clubs in European football. His experience as a former striker could prove valuable as he seeks to improve Dunkerque’s attacking output and overall performance.
Having previously worked behind the scenes as an assistant coach, the Cameroonian now faces the challenge of making the key decisions and managing the expectations that come with leading a professional team.
His appointment will be closely watched by Cameroonian football followers, who will be hoping the former Indomitable Lions forward can make a successful transition from assistant coach to head coach.
With his first match against Rodez approaching, Webo will look to make a strong start and demonstrate that he is ready for the demands of senior management.
