Thierry Henry will be at FNB Stadium on Saturday for the Soweto derby between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.
The former Arsenal and France forward will watch the two Soweto giants meet in one of South Africa’s most prominent sporting rivalries.
Betway, the Premiership’s sponsor, confirmed that Henry would join supporters at the stadium. During his visit, he will also meet the winner of the company’s S’bonise & Win campaign and present them with their prize.
The campaign recognises fans who demonstrate their support by wearing their club colours and regalia.
Henry’s appearance comes as the Premier Soccer League marks 30 years of South African football with its ’96-’26 commemorative campaign. The anniversary gives added significance to one of the headline fixtures in the 2026/27 Betway Premiership calendar.
“I’ve experienced some incredible football rivalries around the world, and I know how much the Soweto Derby means to supporters in South Africa,” Henry said in a statement issued by Betway.
“I’m excited to experience that atmosphere at FNB Stadium and to meet some of the fans who make the occasion what it is.”
The 1998 World Cup winner is widely regarded as one of the finest players to have featured in the English Premiership. He spent seven years with Arsenal between 1999 and 2006.
Henry won the World Cup with France in 1998 and became one of Arsenal’s most celebrated players during his time at the club.
The match between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs is one of the most anticipated fixtures in South African football, with the two clubs meeting in a rivalry known as the Soweto derby.
This weekend’s fixture will therefore combine the occasion’s traditional importance with the Premier Soccer League’s anniversary celebrations and Henry’s presence among the supporters at FNB Stadium.
