Al Ahly set sights on Mohamed Abdel Nasser

Al Ahly are set to bolster their squad with the signing of promising Al Mokawloon Al Arab midfielder Mohamed Abdel Nasser, who has revealed that he will join the Egyptian giants in January on a five-year contract.

The young attacking midfielder has attracted attention with his performances for the Wolves of the Mountain, earning an opportunity to take the next step in his career by moving to one of Egypt’s most successful clubs.

Abdel Nasser’s impending transfer follows reports that Al Ahly had already reached an agreement with Al Mokawloon over the youngster’s signing, with the player now confirming his expected move to the Cairo-based outfit.

The 20-year-old made his Egyptian Premier League debut during the 2022/23 season, becoming the youngest player to feature in the competition at the time. He was introduced by then Al Mokawloon coach Shawky Gharib against Ismaily at the age of 16 years and four months.

Although his opportunities were initially limited, Abdel Nasser gradually established himself in the team and enjoyed a more prominent role last season, making 24 appearances across all competitions.

He scored three goals and provided two assists during that campaign, contributing to Al Mokawloon’s efforts to retain their place in the Egyptian Premier League.

The midfielder has continued to demonstrate his potential this season, making three appearances, including an impressive display against Zamalek in his most recent outing.

Despite Al Mokawloon’s challenge against the Egyptian giants, Abdel Nasser caught the eye with his attacking initiative and played a part in his team’s equaliser after unleashing a powerful effort from inside the penalty area that deflected off a Zamalek player and found the net.

His overall performance further highlighted his technical ability and composure in possession. Abdel Nasser completed 23 of his 24 passes, recording an impressive 96 per cent passing accuracy. He also registered three shots, completed two successful dribbles and won five of his 10 duels against Zamalek.

The player, who wears the number 74 shirt for Al Mokawloon, primarily operates as an attacking midfielder in the number 10 role but can also feature on either wing. His qualities are considered particularly suited to a central position, where he can influence attacking moves and create opportunities for teammates.

His versatility and ability to operate between the lines could make him an interesting addition to Al Ahly’s midfield options as the club continues to strengthen its squad for domestic and continental competitions.

Abdel Nasser will now be hoping to make a smooth transition to the Red Castle when the January move is completed, with the opportunity to develop alongside experienced players and compete for a place in the first team.

For Al Ahly, securing the services of one of Egypt’s emerging talents represents an investment in the future, as the club looks to strengthen its attacking midfield department with a player who has already gained valuable experience in the top flight.

The youngster will be eager to build on his progress at Al Mokawloon and prove that he can make the step up at one of African football’s biggest clubs.
