Ismael Saibari scored and provided an assist as Bayern Munich defeated second-division side FC Magdeburg 6-1 to secure their place in the next round of the German Cup.
The Moroccan international played a key role in Bayern’s victory at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night, setting up Michael Olise for the opening goal before scoring the German side’s second in the first half.
Bayern took the lead in the 10th minute when Olise finished from Saibari’s pass to put the hosts ahead. However, Magdeburg responded quickly, with Mateusz Zukowski finding the net five minutes later to bring the visitors back into the contest.
The equaliser did not last long. Saibari restored Bayern’s advantage in the 21st minute, finishing a move created by Olise to make it 2-1.
Despite Magdeburg’s efforts, Bayern went into the break with the lead and returned for the second half determined to strengthen their position in the tie.
Olise extended the advantage in the 51st minute, converting a penalty to score his second goal of the evening and put Bayern further ahead.
The hosts continued to dominate as the match progressed, adding three more goals to complete a convincing performance and confirm their progression in the competition.
Alphonso Davies scored Bayern’s fourth goal in the 70th minute before Nathaniel Brown found the net three minutes later to make it 5-1.
David Santos Daiber then completed the scoring in stoppage time, striking in the 90th minute plus three to seal a comprehensive 6-1 victory.
Saibari makes his mark in Bayern’s attacking display
Saibari’s contribution was among the highlights of Bayern’s performance, with the Moroccan involved in the team’s first two goals.
His assist for Olise’s opener gave Bayern an early advantage, while his own goal in the 21st minute ensured the hosts regained control after Magdeburg had briefly drawn level.
The midfielder’s involvement helped Bayern establish a lead before half-time, allowing the team to approach the second period from a stronger position.
Olise also played a significant role, scoring twice and providing the assist for Saibari’s goal. His penalty early in the second half further increased the pressure on Magdeburg.
Bayern secure German Cup progression
The 6-1 result confirmed Bayern’s qualification for the next round of the German Cup after a performance that featured contributions from several attacking players.
Although Magdeburg managed to score once in the opening 15 minutes, they struggled to contain Bayern’s attacking threat as the match progressed.
Davies, Brown and Daiber added to the scoreline in the second half, ensuring the hosts finished the match with six goals.
For Saibari, scoring and assisting in the same match provided a notable contribution to Bayern’s cup campaign. His performance helped the Bavarian side overcome their second-division opponents and move one step closer to the German Cup title.
