Bayern hit six as Leverkusen recover and Undav sends Stuttgart through

Bayern Munich marked Harry Kane’s Ballon d’Or triumph with a 6-1 victory over second-tier Magdeburg in the DFB-Pokal, while Bayer Leverkusen came from two goals behind to beat Nurnberg 5-2.

Stuttgart left it until the 90th minute to overcome 10-man Paderborn, with Deniz Undav scoring the only goal of a 1-0 win. Freiburg also staged a late comeback to defeat Wolfsburg 3-2, while Dynamo Dresden, Hertha Berlin and Kaiserslautern also advanced.

Bayern celebrate Kane with emphatic win

Kane was presented with a guard of honour by his Bayern Munich team-mates before kick-off at the Allianz Arena, where 75,000 supporters celebrated his achievement. The England striker remained on the bench for the entire match.

Michael Olise put Bayern ahead before Magdeburg briefly threatened a shock when Mateusz Zukowski equalised. Ismael Saibari restored the hosts’ advantage before half-time, and Bayern took control after the interval.

Olise scored his second from the penalty spot early in the second half. Lennart Karl then provided the assists for goals by Alphonso Davies and Nathaniel Brown, before teenage substitute David Santos Daiber completed the scoring in stoppage time.

Bayern coach Vincent Kompany was discharged from hospital five days after collapsing during training. His side now switch their focus to Saturday’s Bundesliga meeting with Borussia Dortmund.

Leverkusen overturn deficit

Bayer Leverkusen avoided a major cup upset by recovering from 2-0 down to beat Nurnberg 5-2.

Edmond Tapsoba played a central role in the comeback, scoring twice. Patrik Schick, Jonas Hofmann and Lucas Vazquez were also on target as Leverkusen’s attacking quality eventually told.

Undav breaks Paderborn resistance

Stuttgart were made to work for their place in the next round after Paderborn defender Laurin Curda was sent off in the 37th minute.

Despite their numerical advantage and a series of opportunities, Stuttgart could not find a way through until the final minute. Ermedin Demirovic had two efforts saved before Undav met a cross from Chris Fuehrich to settle the tie.

“The win is what matters most,” Undav said. “I honestly don’t care whether I’m the one who scores, and that’s the truth. We won, we’re through to the next round – on we go.”

Freiburg complete late turnaround

Freiburg came from behind to defeat Wolfsburg 3-2, with Japan forward Keisuke Goto scoring twice in the final 15 minutes.

Igor Matanovic opened the scoring for Freiburg, but Kento Shiogai scored twice for Wolfsburg to put the visitors in front. Goto then took control of the closing stages, finding the net twice to secure Freiburg’s progress.

Dynamo Dresden and Hertha Berlin both won 2-0, against Schalke and Jeddeloh respectively. Kaiserslautern completed a 2-0 victory over Hannover to advance as well.
