Mustapha Hadji criticises Sofyan Amrabat over Morocco national team dispute
Former Morocco international Mustapha Hadji has criticised Sofyan Amrabat following the midfielder’s decision not to represent the national team while Mohamed Ouahbi remains in charge of the Atlas Lions.
Hadji sent a strong message to the Ajax Amsterdam player in an interview with Kooora, insisting that representing Morocco and raising the national flag must take priority over disagreements with the coach.
Hadji insists no player is bigger than Morocco
The former African Footballer of the Year had previously spoken out against players setting conditions for national team appearances or demanding changes to the coaching staff.
Hadji called on Amrabat to respect the technical staff’s decisions and avoid placing himself above the national team.
He also stressed that players should be prepared to contribute even if they are given only a minute on the pitch, arguing that representing the country should be approached with honour.
Hadji further supported the view that a player’s past achievements do not guarantee a starting place, with selection depending on readiness and the coach’s assessment.
‘Who are you?’ — Hadji sends direct message to Amrabat
Hadji’s remarks were particularly direct as he addressed the midfielder’s situation with the national team.
“Who are you? You have to.. You come to play and keep quiet”.
The comments come amid the reported disagreement between Amrabat and Wahbi, with the midfielder choosing not to join the national team while the coach remains in charge.
