CAF Confederation Cup 2026-27: Al Ahly, Raja Casablanca and Sfaxien learn group-stage opponents

The group-stage draw for the 2026-27 CAF Confederation Cup has placed some of Africa’s most established clubs in four groups, with Egyptian club Al Ahly returning to the competition after an absence of several years.

Al Ahly have been drawn alongside Moroccan club Raja Casablanca, Togo’s ASKO Kara and 1 August of Angola in Group A.

Group B contains Moroccan side FAR Rabat, Tanzanian club Azam, Al Ahli Tripoli of Libya and South African team Durban City.

The make-up of Group C includes the winner of the tie between Chabab Belouizdad of Algeria, the Mauritanian club FC Nouadhibou and Hafia of Guinea, as well as Congolese side Maniema Union, Tanzania’s Singida Black Stars and Zambia’s Red Arrows.

Group D features USM Alger of Algeria, Tunisian club Sfaxien, Mozambique’s Black Bulls and Real Bamako of Mali.

The clubs were divided into four seeding pots before the draw. Al Ahly, USM Alger, FAR Rabat and the Chabab Belouizdad/FC Nouadhibou/Hafia winner were in Pot One.

Pot Two consisted of Raja Casablanca, Maniema Union, Sfaxien and Azam. Al Ahli Tripoli, Singida Black Stars, Black Bulls and Real Bamako were placed in Pot Three, while ASKO Kara, Durban City, Red Arrows and 1 August made up Pot Four.

The draw brings together several clubs with long histories in African football, including Raja Casablanca, Sfaxien, Al Ahli Tripoli and Al Ahly, who are set to compete in the Confederation Cup again after several years away.
