Morocco midfielder Naïl El Aynaoui opens up on adaptation at RB Leipzig
Moroccan international Naïl El Aynaoui has admitted that he needs more time to adapt to the demands of German football following his move to RB Leipzig from Italian side AS Roma.
The midfielder acknowledged that the Bundesliga presents a different challenge compared to the French and Italian leagues, explaining that adjusting to the pace and style of play in Germany requires patience as he continues to settle into his new environment.
Speaking to RB Leipzig’s official website, El Aynaoui openly discussed his adaptation process, saying: “I still need more time to adapt; football is played very differently in Germany compared to France or Italy.”
The Morocco international’s comments underline the challenges players can face when moving between major European leagues, particularly when adapting to different tactical approaches, match intensity and expectations.
Despite the adjustment period, El Aynaoui expressed confidence in the quality of his teammates, particularly the technical ability of the midfielders around him. He believes playing alongside players with strong technical qualities makes his responsibilities easier, whether he operates in an advanced midfield position or takes on a deeper role to help protect the defence.
The midfielder’s versatility could prove valuable for RB Leipzig as the club seeks to maintain its competitive edge across the campaign. His ability to contribute in different areas of midfield offers the coaching staff additional tactical options as he becomes more familiar with the team’s playing philosophy.
El Aynaoui also acknowledged the pressure that comes with representing a club with RB Leipzig’s ambitions, but views those expectations as a normal part of professional football. Rather than allowing the pressure to become a distraction, he believes it should serve as motivation for the squad to improve and deliver stronger performances.
He highlighted pressing and coordination as key areas requiring further development, stressing the importance of improving the team’s collective performance. For Leipzig to achieve its objectives, the players must work together effectively, apply pressure consistently and maintain better organisation throughout matches.
Another concern for the Moroccan midfielder is the club’s performance away from home. He noted that Leipzig generally performs better in front of its own supporters and believes the team must find ways to reproduce that level of performance when playing on the road.
Improving their away form will be crucial if Leipzig are to remain competitive throughout the season, particularly against opponents who can exploit any drop in intensity or organisation.
For El Aynaoui, the immediate priority is to continue adapting to the Bundesliga while building a stronger understanding with his teammates. With time and consistent performances, the Moroccan international will hope to establish himself as an important figure in Leipzig’s midfield and help the club meet its ambitions.
