Drone sighting forces early stoppage in Fleetwood v Arsenal League Cup tie

Arsenal’s English League Cup last-16 match against Fleetwood was halted just one minute after kick-off because a drone was flying above the stadium.

The match was being played at Highbury in Lancashire, Fleetwood’s home ground, when the referee stopped proceedings to protect the safety of the players.

After consulting with officials from both clubs and the players, the referee decided the game could resume after a 10-minute interruption.

Fleetwood play in the English second tier.
