Mikel Arteta has selected Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres to lead Arsenal’s attack against Fleetwood Town in the last 16 of the English League Cup.
Arsenal are the first side to play in this round, with the remaining last-16 fixtures scheduled across Wednesday and Thursday.
Arteta’s starting XI is:
Goalkeeper: Ilan Meslier
Defenders: Jurrien Timber, Marli Salmon, Cristhian Mosquera, Piero Hincapie
Midfielders: Martin Zubimendi, Lewis-Skelly, Max Dowman
Forwards: Kiedah O’Neill, Kai Havertz, Viktor Gyokeres
Arsenal reached the last 16 after beating Ipswich Town 4-2 in the previous round.
Fleetwood Town secured their place by defeating Sheffield United 1-0.
The match is being played at Fleetwood Town’s stadium, which is called Highbury. The name may recall Arsenal’s former home to the club’s supporters, but the ground has no connection to the London side beyond the similarity in name.
Arsenal left their historic Highbury stadium in 2006 to move to Emirates Stadium. Highbury was later demolished after the club’s relocation, following more than a century at the ground.
Fleetwood’s stadium took its name for an entirely different reason. The club moved to its current home in 1939, and the ground was called Highbury because it is situated on Highbury Avenue.
Fleetwood Town are 18th in the English fourth division.
