Azzedine Ounahi is not expected to return to competitive football until April 2027 after a second scan confirmed a complete rupture of the right biceps femoris tendon.
The Morocco midfielder had initially been expected to face a relatively short spell on the sidelines, but the latest medical assessment has significantly worsened the outlook.
The injury will now require a lengthy recovery, with Ounahi set to spend several months away from football. Medical staff expect him to follow a demanding rehabilitation programme before he can resume playing.
The setback represents a major blow for both his club and the Morocco national team. They will be without Ounahi’s vision and technical influence in midfield for a large part of the season.
His absence also ends hopes of a quick return and leaves the midfielder facing the biggest physical and mental challenge of his career.
